A Lehigh County title agent is accused of misappropriating $5.6 million of his clients’ funds, according to a lawsuit filed last week in Lehigh County.
As a title agent, Belletieri processes real estate transactions. He takes proceeds from the sale of a home and disburses them to pay off taxes, liens, mortgages and fees and then provides the remaining proceeds to the seller. Fidelity has asked a Lehigh County judge for access to more of Legacy Title’s financial information and wants steps taken to prevent more money from disappearing from Legacy accounts.
Philadelphia attorney Caitlin P. Strauss filed the lawsuit on behalf of Fidelity Title on Sept. 29. She didn’t return a call seeking comment. Fidelity Title is based in Plymouth Township, Montgomery County.
