Hatboro police officer Ryan Allen. Photo credit: Borough of Hatboro, Pa.Ryan Allen, who became disabled following a severe allergic reaction a bee sting, died this week.“Although he fought long and hard, he ultimately could not overcome the damage done to his body as a result of the reaction,” Gardner said.Allen had been with the department since 2013. He was a dog handler and had a key role in starting a K-9 unit in his department.

The reaction to the bee sting on Oct. 14, 2021 caused Allen to go into cardiac arrest, leading to a brain injury resulting from lack of oxygen. He spent months in rehabilitation. However, his wife announced in early March that doctors concluded he would not make a meaningful recovery.“The support for Officer Allen, his family and our police department in the months since that October day has been overwhelming. We are forever grateful for the love and support shown during this difficult time,” Gardner wrote on Facebook.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
