Nurses chosen to receive student loan forgiveness through the Pennsylvania Student Loan Relief for Nurses Program have about a week to submit a verification form from their loan servicer.
Nurses selected to participate in Pennsylvania's Student Loan Relief for Nurses Program face a Sept. 24 deadline for submitting loan verification forms or risk losing their eligiblity. File/PennLive/Sean Simmers, ssimmers@pennlive.comA deadline is fast approaching for the nearly 7,000 nurses who were selected to receive up to $7,500 in debt forgiveness through Pennsylvania’s Student Loan Relief for Nurses Program.
“Throughout the pandemic, few worked so hard and in the service of so many - while taking great personal risk - than nurses working in communities across Pennsylvania,” said Rep. Mike Peifer, R-Pike County, who chairs the board of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, which is administering the loan forgiveness program.
The form that must be submitted by next weekend identifies which student loan or loans the nurse wants the relief to apply to and the priority order if there is more than one loan to which it is to be applied. Interest in the program drew nearly 24,000 applications, forcing PHEAA to develop a selection method to ensure the money was equitably distributed to applicants across the state. All applicants were sent a letter on Aug. 26 advising whether they had been selected for this debt relief, according to PHEAA.
