Barbarann Keffer, mayor of Upper Darby, was arrested on DUI charges after a Thursday night traffic stop, according to reports.
Court records reveal Keffer appeared to be drunk, damaged her vehicle, and refused to take a blood test. According to charging documents, she was headed westbound on Route 322 when an officer noticed her swerving Toyota Corolla had a flat tire and damage to the front bumper. The officer claimed Keffer’s smelled like booze when she was pulled over. The charging documents added Keffer admitted to having three drinks, but she failed a sobriety test and refused to continue it.
She was taken into custody at the Upper Chichester Police Department where she reportedly refused a blood test, or to be photographed and fingerprinted. Though Keffer wasn’t belligerent, according to police. Surveillance footage confirms her car wasn’t damaged during her travels. Though police believe she hit a guardrail.Upper Darby officials released a statement on Friday: “Last evening, Mayor Barbarann Keffer was involved in a traffic incident and plans to cooperate fully with local authorities in Upper Chichester. The Mayor was arrested on suspicion of DUI and released.
