Naciones Unidas ha suspendido y detenido a ocho efectivos de las fuerzas de paz en el este de Congo ante denuncias de explotación sexual, dijo un funcionario de la organización.
La ONU dijo en un comunicado el miércoles que ha tomado “medidas enérgicas en respuesta a informes de faltas graves cometidas por los efectivos de paz”. Estos se encuentran presos mientras se obtienen más detalles y se realiza una investigación exhaustiva.
Su misión es proteger a los civiles, disuadir a los grupos armados y reforzar las instituciones estatales y servicios públicos. A pesar de su presencia, el conflicto continúa y se agrava.
