League-Kempner House, that was once listed as one of the most at-risk historic homes, is now being restored. The home was purchased in 2021 by Janie Mitcham, who has been restoring the home. Although there is still work to be done, the structure is now secure and she is planning to begin a limited number of"progress" tours in April.

After League's death in 1916, Eliza Kempner acquired the house and it would remain in the Kempner family until 1972. Kempner had the home remodeled in 1920 to accommodate her 10 ten children and many grandchildren.The family created an economic empire Mitcham said she likes to do"sensitive remodels" of homes to keep them as historical as possible while getting them to a point where the next owner can carry on their history.
