Cheyenne was put to sleep aged 41 after her health declined following the disturbing assault in Aberdeenshire.

An elderly horse with one eye has died a month after she was the victim of a sickening attack. Forty-year-old Cheyenne was found with “blood all over her tail” on August 1 with staff from the sanctuary who cared for her asking for help catching the culprit.

They feel the “vile” assault the horse suffered was to blame for her decline. After seeking advice from a vet following the attack, Cheyenne was found to have suffered external and internal injuries the sanctuary said were too graphic to describe. The sanctuary posted on Facebook: “We are very sad to announce that our beautiful girl Cheyenne has been put to sleep.

“She went very peacefully, in the sunshine surrounded by people who cared very much for her and we are all very glad that was able to have a calm and dignified end.
