A new poll finds the omicron variant isn't persuading people to get the covid vaccine or booster

The omicron variant so far has no effect on a majority of U.S. adults’ willingness to get the Covid-19 vaccine or a booster shot, a new Axios/Ipsos

finds, despite early evidence suggesting the third shot is crucial for protecting against infection from the new strain.Key Facts The poll, conducted December 10-13 among 993 U.S. adults, found 67% of unvaccinated respondents say the omicron variant makes no difference in their decision of whether to get vaccinated, while 19% say it makes them more likely and 11% say it makes them less likely.

Among vaccinated respondents who haven’t yet gotten a booster shot, 59% said the omicron makes no difference in their decision of whether to get the third dose, while 36% said it makes them more likely and 5% said it makes them less likely. When asked what the most important reason is for them to get a booster shot, only 5% of vaccinated respondents cited their worry about the omicron variant, while a 40% plurality said they would get or had gotten the booster because it makes severe disease from Covid-19 less likely.
