Property records say about 3,000 people who still list Ohio as their primary address also have homes in Lee County, Florida, home to some of the hardest hit areas in and around Fort Myers on Florida’s southwest coast.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Chuck Todd of Chesterland late last month headed to his beachfront second home in Fort Myers, Florida, for “just a two-week getaway to check on the condo ... have a beer or two with the great neighbors.”

His home, built in 2021 and “hurricane-proof,” suffered damage to the gutters, some trees are bent at 90-degree angles, and many in his neighborhood lost power, he said Tuesday. He had no water pressure. Locally, 122 moved from Cuyahoga County that year, and at least 160 from surrounding counties in Greater Cleveland.

DelBagno, himself, did not experience much damage from the storm, though his neighborhood is still dealing with power outage. That’s freed DelBagno, who along with Robert Hamilton from the Napels division of the club and other Browns Backers clubs, to work on coordinating donations being made to help out members.
