Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann discussed the health of his team and, yes, those final seconds of regulation against UNC on his weekly radio show.

Holtmann addressed the biggest talking point after the loss to the Tar Heels immediately after the game.

The side-out play was something the Tar Heels had never run, and Holtmann didn’t identify the person but he said he spoke with the coach who created the play years ago. North Carolina said postgame it was something the coaches had seen Brad Stevens run. As for the thought of putting 6-11 Felix Okpara on the ball, Holtmann pointed to last year’s season-opening win against Akron where Zed Key scored the game-winning basket in the final seconds in a similar situation.

"Right now, Gene’s probably a little bit more ready in terms of getting ready to help us and I think we’re not sure yet, we’re going to evaluate him in practice," he said."He is going full-go in practice. I’d like to be able to have a 9-to-10 man rotation." “I think our potentially what we could’ve done is put him in the full-court situation,” Holtmann said. “Again, what sometimes people don’t understand is we practice these situations over and over. We know who we trust in those situations. It’s not that we don’t trust Felix, but there’s some things you’ve got to recognize. He’s a young big. Got to recognize quickly on the fly and I think his length can be valuable in situations.
