, school leaders’ union NAHT and the Association of School and College Leaders calling for inspections to be halted after Ms Perry’s death.
A petition calling for an inquiry into the inspection of the school has more than 110,000 signatures. “The fear the inspection regime generates is ultimately passed from headteachers to teachers, and then on to the pupils. The central idea that putting pressure on people to perform has not led to higher standards – instead it has led to an epidemic of poor mental health, hyper-anxiety and self-harm in both pupils and adults.
He called for Ofsted to be “disbanded and be replaced by a system of professional collaboration and support”, underpinned by an understanding that schools operate in different circumstances across the country.
