involving a motorcyclist and an SUV is under investigation by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office as the motorcycle was being followed by an off-duty New Jersey State trooper at the time, officials said.
The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. when the driver of an SUV made a left turn at the intersection of Route 206 and County Road 670 in Springfield Township, according to New Jersey State Police. The motorcycle collided with the SUV in the intersection, killing the 24-year-old motorcyclist, who was not identified Wednesday.
During part of the incident a Springfield police officer was following behind the unmarked State Police vehicle, the office said. Anytime a police officer is involved in a crash that leads to the death of a civilian, the office becomes involved in the investigation. The Attorney General’s findings will be presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence supports the return of an indictment against the officer or officers involved.
