Steven Soderbergh’s all-star 2001 remake of 1960s Rat Pack film Ocean’s Eleven was a surprise hit when it grossed $450 million worldwide, a box office performance that paved the way for a pair of sequels and an eventual all-female reboot.

Uninterested in lingering on love story angles, those movies are all very much heist films in the classic sense, zooming in on the logistics of planning a major operation, and unspooling the various complications that arise in pulling it off.
