OAKLAND – A man has been arrested in connection with a homicide late last year near Lake Merritt in Oakland, police announced Thursday.
Emmanuel Gardner-Craft was taken into custody Sunday on the 500 block of Grand Avenue, the Oakland Police Department said in a news release. Officers also recovered a loaded gun. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Gardner-Craft with the murder of 38-year-old Oakland resident Ricky Bustos.
Bustos was hanging out on the 1400 block of Lakeshore Avenue on Dec. 24 when he got into a confrontation with another person and was fatally shot, according to police.last year – a woman was shot to death in November and seven other people were wounded by gunfire in the preceding seven months. Authorities at the time said they did not believe Bustos’ killing was related to the previous violence.
