Maritza Yauger, 65, is charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of her 7-year-old granddaughter — and her Bronx neighbors can’t make any sense of it.

Emma Devers, 66, said her friend Martiza Yauger adored her 7-year-old granddaughter, and is in shock she would allegedly stab the girl multiple times in her Bronx home.Maria Castillo, a hairdresser at the local beauty salon, said Yauger periodically brought her granddaughter in to get pampered, paying for her to have her hair and nails done.
But locals also said something changed in Yauger after her own mother died about a year ago, making her more withdrawn — and they all noticed it.
