Nvidia Corp. is nearing a deal to buy fellow chip maker Mellanox Technologies Ltd. for more than $7 billion, Reuters reported Sunday. The all-cash deal would be the biggest ever for Nvidia. Mellanox makes chips for data-center servers, which would help diversify Nvidia away from being so reliant on chips for videogame computers. Reuters said Nvidia outbid rival Intel Corp. in an auction for Mellanox, and a deal could be announced as soon as Monday.
