After leading the majority of the second half – and threatening to steal a must-win Game 5 – the Nuggets fell to Golden State, 102-98, ending their season. The Warriors won the opening round playoff series 4-1.
An unfortunate backcourt turnover from Aaron Gordon with 1:42 remaining stunted Denver’s momentum and overshadowed another strong night from Gordon. After an underwhelming start to the series, Gordon had 15 points and nine rebounds, and both Will Barton and Monte Morris scored 14. Denver’s fight, even without him, was noteworthy. It’s the first time in four seasons the Nuggets have failed to reach the second round of the playoffs.
Yet Barton undercut that with a clutch 3-pointer from the wing, and Cousins ended the third quarter with three consecutive baskets. His 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds left in the period gave Denver a 78-70 lead going into the fourth.
