Latest Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper's Reds reflect on start to Premier League season
Nottingham Forest can reflect on a positive start to the season as they take a breather during the international break.
Forest now have plenty of strength in depth across the pitch and they have brought in some really good players. Full credit to everyone involved in that; some brilliant recruitment has been done. Marinakis has always been ambitious. I hope there is still some room for patience, though. Last season showed how tough and ruthless the Premier League is. Even when there is plenty of quality in the squad, it can take time for Forest to reach the heights they want to get to.
I still think it will take time for everything to come together and for some players to hit top form. But there is the possibility of progress now, which is huge. That’s what Forest wanted this season - to kick on. They’ve got the platform and the squad to do that. The likes of Murillo, Danilo, Anthony Elanga and Morgan Gibbs-White all have their best years ahead of them. If a top 10 place is beyond them this year, Forest will be able to go again knowing there is still so much more to come from the group.
A: Midfield is definitely an area where there is a lot of strength in depth. I don’t envy Cooper, having to pick a starting line-up. It will be interesting to see whether Cooper goes with a two or three in midfield. He has suggested he will favour going with a four-man defence at some point, which might point to a 4-2-3-1 or maybe a 4-3-3. He’s not short of options, and having that kind of flexibility will be really valuable.
