Two protesters released flares as they hung from the bridge
A 21-year-old man from West Northamptonshire has appeared in court accused of disrupting traffic during a protest on Tower Bridge in London. The Extinction Rebellion protest in April led to the closure of London's famous bridge after two protesters dangled from it by suspension cords.
At 7am on Friday, April 8, a number of Extinction Rebellion protestors hung a 22m-long banner from the London landmark, demanding: 'End fossil fuels now'. Two protesters also dangled from the bridge by suspension cords to prevent the bascules being opened up for ships.Metropolitan Police officers were forced to close the famous turreted bridge in the City of London to traffic for several hours as they attempted to remove the protestors.
