Update: A boil order is still in effect in a north Harris County area Friday when it comes to drinking, but residents can now wash dishes, do laundry and bathe safely.

The water, which had been turned off at one point, is on in Harris County Utility District 16 after the boil water notice was issued for residents Thursday because a main water pipe broke. Water is still being tested by a third-party before it can be safely consumed according to Todd Burrer, vice president ofBurrer said the project took so long because the new pipe required the crew to dig a hole six-feet deep and 25-feet wide.
The main water pipe broke Thursday afternoon during a routine fire hydrant valve repair in front of a water plant. Burrer said the valve was near a main pipe that was very old and was the source for the neighborhood's water. Burrer said although the community had no water, the state still requires them to issue the boil water notice.
