Birth control-laced cat food is an interesting -- but not practical -- idea for reducing the number of feral cats.to keep them from getting pregnant? We have a lot of feral cats in my neighborhood that keep having litters. Unfortunately, the majority of kittens die because of a lack of food, or they’re infested with fleas. I’ve tried calling animal control for help picking them up but have had no luck. They say they don’t have the resources. I don’t have the resources to get them all neutered.
Food that could be fed to feral cats to halt or interrupt feline reproduction would be a game changer, but there is nothing on the market yet. The problem with doing that with food is that a wild animal could eat it and be impacted as well. But you're thinking in the right direction. Research into nonsurgical sterilization is ongoing. Hopefully, someday we will have another option to help feral cats.Currently, there are only two ways to reduce the number of feral cats on our streets.
