No strangers to hostile venues, 'something special' awaits Astros in Philadelphia
Philadelphia fans have not seen a home loss this postseason, with the Phillies taking a 5-0 record at Citizens Bank Park into Monday's Game 3 of the World Series against the Astros.During this current era of deep playoff runs, the Astros have played in plenty of hostile venues, from traditionally intimidating environments like Yankee Stadium, Dodger Stadium and Fenway Park in Boston to a frenzied T-Mobile Park in Seattle hosting its first postseason game in 21 years.
But TBS and MLB Network analyst Ron Darling said the scene Monday at Citizens Bank Park, which will host its first World Series game since 2009, will be a different animal. “Playing in Philadelphia when a Philadelphia team is good, you can go from the Broad Street Bullies to Julius Erving and the Sixers to this team right now, there's something special going on and that’s a karma that no analytics or information can account for,” Darling said.
Astros closer Ryan Pressly, in his fifth Houston postseason, was nonplussed about the Philadelphia factor. “It’s normal,” Pressly said after the Astros’ Game 2 win. “It’s nothing that we haven’t seen before. It is what it is. We’ve been out there before and just want to go out there and play good baseball.”
