Getting a COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy doesn't increase the risk of complications, such as a preterm birth or stillbirth, according to a new study.
The findings could help people make evidence-based decisions about the benefits and risks of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy, the study authors write.
COVID-19 infection during pregnancy has been linked with higher risks of complications, including hospitalization and death, as well as preterm birth and stillbirth. Previous studies have shown that COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy is effective against infection, including for newborns. The researchers looked at a wide range of factors, including the mother’s age at delivery, prepregnancy, reported smoking or substance use during pregnancy, preexisting health conditions, the number of previous live births or stillbirths, area of residence, and income.
