Coco Gauff loses her fourth match to world's top player in quarterfinals at Barnes Tennis Center
Coco Gauff is unquestionably one of the bright young stars in tennis but the 18-year-old has faced a roadblock in world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.Swiatek improved to 4-0 against No. 8 Gauff and earned her tour-best 62nd victory of the year with a 6-0, 6-3 win that took just 65 minutes. It advances the 22-year-old from Poland to today’s semifinals of the WTA San Diego Open, where she will face world No. 6 Jessica Pegula.
Gauff had two break chances of her own in the first set but was unable to cash in and didn’t win a game until already down 2-0 in the second set. Pegula, who also pairs with Gauff in today’s doubles semifinals, played her usual steady, mostly mistake free style against the harder hitting Keys.
