Nigerian politician and wife found guilty of organ harvesting plot by S_Fleary1
GUILTY: Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu was found guilty of conspiring to traffic a man to the United Kingdom to harvest his kidney.
Mr Ekweremadu was accused along with his wife, Beatrice, daughter and a doctor, of bringing the street trader from Lagos to London to have his kidney organs removed.The trial heard that the organ was meant to be given to the couple’s daughter, Sonia, 25 – who was cleared on the same charge.The victim told the court, he only knew about the organ donation plans after he underwent preliminary tests with private doctors at the Royal Free Hospital, in north London.
The defendants allegedly tried to convince doctors the man was their daughters cousin and was a suitable donor. Prosecutor Hugh Davies KC accused Mr Ekweremadu, of deliberately not asking his own family members to donate a kidney because he did not want to put people he knew at “medical risk.”
