ENC is slated to be the first HPAL with capacity to produce the three major class 1 nickel products
Nickel Industries currently has a 55% interest in the Chinese company Tsingshan-conceived ENC, a $2.3 billion development that will annually yield about 72,000t per annum of nickel equivalent output. ENC is slated as being the first HPAL operation globally with the capacity to produce the three major class 1 nickel products - mixed hydroxide precipitate, nickel sulphate and nickel cathode - all of which are suitable for use in the electric vehicle battery market.
And with improvements in energy density and their inherent non-fire/thermal runaway properties, LFP batteries are reportedly starting to become more popular in North America. Intriguingly, Nickel Industries has engaged an undisclosed global investment bank "to assist in securing the most attractive offtake and possible project-level investment partners from the major European, North American and Asian EV and battery markets".
