Real hockey is upon us, and you know what that means — online sportsbooks are trying to predict which coach gets fired first. Those lists are goofy and gross for lots of reasons. They’re also largely unrealistic. Are there coaches who aren’t far from the hot seat? Sure. Not a ton, though, and even the names at the top of the list have a short route to safety. Look no further than Lindy Ruff and the in 2022-23. Just one coach was fired during the season.
Sullivan’s presence on the list at all, let alone at these odds, should be an argument against its existence, but there are always folks willing to waste their money. André Tourigny, Why he’s here: Reflexes. Laziness, maybe. “Sure, let’s throw the Coyotes coach on there.” Why he shouldn’t be : Because he isn’t going to be fired. Tourigny coached Arizona to a 23-point improvement last season in hellacious circumstances and signed a three-year extension over the summer.
