An opening date for Glass Orchid in Beeston will be announced shortly
A transformation is well underway at Beeston's newest restaurant and bar, Glass Orchid. The venue is set to open in early September with innovative cocktails and an exciting menu of world tapas.
Beeston-born-and-bred Gemma, who has previously worked at the Star, the Commercial and most recently The Beeston Social, said: "This is a dream really. I've worked in the industry for 11 years now, for other people, which has been great, but it's nice to be able to put your own stamp on things." Head chef Mark Robinson has worked in kitchens for 24 years. Originally from Darlington, County Durham, he moved to Nottingham to work at two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Sat Bains. After two years as a chef de partie, he moved around, working at the former Beeston restaurant, The Library; Nottingham pub the Hand & Heart and Lakeside at Arnold.
Another dish, Grandad's Sandwich, is a nod to the snack his grandad used to give him as a kid - which he actually hated at the time. "My grandad used to make me a stilton and marmalade sandwich, bearing in mind I was 11 or 12 years old, it was the most disgusting thing for me as a kid. My granny had a banana or cheese sandwich ready and we'd strategically place it in the bin," he said.
Gemma said: "We've not gone for any real ale as Beeston is really well known for it so we don't need to compete with that. There are 25 world wines, different to other wines supplied in Beeston. I want to bring something different to Beeston and work with other hospitality owners. There is no point offering the same in every venue in such a small area."
