New Research Links ‘Forever Chemicals’ Found in Drinking Water, Clothing to Hypertension in Women

study measured PFAS levels in the women’s blood at the start of the study period, and found that those with higher initial levels were more at-risk of developing hypertension. More specifically, those with detectable amounts of—, which is found in certain cleaners, paints, and adhesives, experienced a 47% increased risk.

The study found that exposure to multiple types of PFAS increased their impact on patients’ blood pressure, and overall, women in the highest third of PFAS blood concentrations were 71% more likely to develop hypertension than those in the lowest third.released updated drinking water advisories pertaining to PFAS, concluding that even concentrations of near zero in water supplies could cause negative health effects.
