WASPI campaign representatives met with Pensions Minister Emma Reynolds on Thursday.
The Chair of the Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign has said that a meeting with the new Pensions Minister on Thursday “is the start of something” on the ongoing fight for ‘fair and fast compensation’ for an estimated 3.8million women impacted by changes to their State Pension age.
The WASPI Chair continued: “Our campaign has been going for nearly 10 years now and this is the first meeting we've had with a Pensions Minister. So that’s quite significant. The PHSO recommended compensation equivalent to Level 4 on its banding scale, which is worth between £1,000 and £2,950.Top Money Stories Today She went on to explain how the compensation recommendations were based on six test cases being investigated by the Ombudsman despite an estimated 3.8m women similarly affected.
She explained that one approach would be for those who have suffered the “exact same injustices” as the six test cases who did not suffer financial loss.Latest State Pension News Ms Madde also confirmed that no compensation figure or potential costs involved was discussed during the meeting.
