Jay Inslee to see at an empty, abandoned field in Lynnwood this week, but the construction signs on the gates spelled out what is to come.
"This is very far-sighted because it gives students what they need, which is stability and housing." Inslee said.will build the new Scriber Place. The finished development will have room to house 52 families with students in the Edmonds School District or neighboring districts."We do serve multiple communities and we do have many students and families who are facing evictions and homelessness," Edmonds School District Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Miner said.
According to district staff, more than 600 families within the district are experiencing homelessness. "Not all of these families are what you would traditionally think of as unhoused, living in a car, or tent, but they may be doubled up with other family members or with friends," Miner said. "They may be temporarily living in a hotel."
Family support staff will be on site to work with parents on education, job training and employment. Child and family specialists will help kids recover from the trauma of housing instability.
