Owner Bryn Rawlyk hopes to open the new location by the end of the month.
The mill and the grains it grinds are what fuel the Night Oven, a popular Saskatoon bakery relocating to a new, bigger location to feed growing hunger for its bread.
Rawlyk’s bakery is moving to a new location at 216 Avenue D North with nearly twice the floorspace, which he hopes to open by the end of June. “It was the Christmas before COVID that we hit the ceiling,” Rawlyk said. “We actually had to tell people we could’t make bread for them, because we couldn’t bake more bread.”The new Night Oven location sits in a former light industrial area north of 22nd Avenue West. On a recent hot afternoon, Carlos Santana’s “Smooth” blared from speakers as workers hammered in floorboards upstairs.
