Older people would receive more money in a monthly State Pension payment, but less frequently throughout the year.
A new online petition is calling for a crucial change to be made to the way State Pension payments are made to millions of older people across Great Britain. Petition creator Alexandra Abraham is proposing that the State Pension should be paid on fixed dates throughout the month instead of the current schedule of every four weeks.
The proposed change would see someone on the full New State Pension receive £883.35 every month instead of £815.40 - every four weeks. Someone on the maximum Basic State Pension receive £676.90 every month instead of £624.80 every four weeks. The petition states: “The Government should pay state pensions on fixed dates every month to make it much easier for pensioners to budget, control their expenditure, and set up Direct Debits and standing orders.
“A fixed monthly payment date will mean regulating expenses will not be hit-and-miss, and should give greater security and peace of mind to many who might worry about their accounts holding sufficient funds, month to month, and being able to meet their financial commitments.”
