Independent Age, a charity organisation, is urging internet providers to better promote their broadband social tariffs. This move aims to increase awareness among older individuals who are financially struggling that they could be paying as little as £12.50 per month for their broadband services through Virgin Media Essentials.
Recent studies conducted by the dedicated older people's charity indicate that nearly half of State Pensioners on a low income have found it challenging to keep up with their broadband bill over the past six months. These findings raise concerns that the cost of living crisis has exacerbated the 'digital divide', and there are warnings that older people experiencing financial hardship may become increasingly isolated, reports the Daily Record.
"You can find out whether you're eligible and for a list of what providers are offering through the Ofcom website. These start at £12 per month and are designed with customers who need extra support in mind. Contact your current supplier for more information."
