The tech giant and household name came from humble beginnings as a DVD rental service - and will end its original business model after a quarter of a century.
Netflix has confirmed it will "wind down" its DVD rental service 25 years after sending its first film through the post box.
In March 1998, Netflix sent out the first DVD from its warehouse - and it wasn't a must-have new release. Instead, the first movie it rented was the quirky dark comedy "Beetlejuice" directed by Tim Burton. However, reports of its latest first quarter earnings indicate that Netflix is in its recovery year. Thanks to continued subscriber adds in the first four months of 2023, Netflix brought in $8.16 billion and is expected to reach $8.24 billion for the next quarter.
