Nearly 19 pounds of meth seized by Border Patrol on I-8 near Campo [Breaking]
U.S. Border Patrol Agents arrested a man on Interstate 8 near Campo suspected of transporting more than 18 pounds of methamphetamine in his car Monday afternoon.
While patrolling the highway near Campo, a Border Patrol agent saw a gray Hyundai Sonata traveling west on I-8. The car was then stopped at the Westbound Checkpoint, authorities said Tuesday. As a K-9 team searched outside the car during the stop, the dog alerted to something under the car. The agents then looked in the car’s undercarriage, where 20 packages of meth were hidden.
The agents found 18.87 pounds of meth, which has an estimated street value of $42,000, federal authorities said. Agents arrested the driver, a U.S. citizen, then transferred him into custody of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, federal authorities said. The drugs were handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the car was impounded by the Border Patrol.The Border Patrol in San Diego said it has confiscated more than 4,657 pounds of meth since October.
