The S&P 500 closed above 2,940, marking a new record close for the index. Alphabet dragged the Nasdaq down as the tech giant posted its worst day in more than 6 years.
Tuesday, sending its shares up 4.6%. The company posted earnings of 13 cents a shares, above Wall Street consensus of 9 cents a share, according to Refinitiv. Revenue also came above expectations.
Dow-member Apple is slated to report earnings after the bell Tuesday. Its shares traded down near 2% ahead of the release.
