A Naperville man accused of texting a 12-year-old girl and sending her sexually explicit photos to persuade her to have sex with him has been charged with indecent solicitation of a child.
Bail was set at $100,000 for Eziz Serdarow, 19, of the 100 block of East 11th Avenue, who is living in Naperville on a student visa. A condition of his bond is that he relinquish his passport.Serdarow allegedly contacted the girl Aug. 4 via unsolicited text messages in which he asked her to take a walk with him and to send him photos of herself, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The girl’s parents notified the Lisle Police Department, which kept track of subsequent messages in which the suspect allegedly sent the girl photos of people having sex and a text in which he said he wanted to have sex with her, the state’s attorney’s office said in its account of the incident. When Serdarow allegedly agreed to meet the victim Aug. 10 in a park, Lisle police took him into custody.
“With text messaging and instant messaging functions, cell phones have become a part of the everyday lives of millions of people,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “Unfortunately, text messaging has also become a virtual electronic playground where sexual predators can hide behind the anonymity it provides. I encourage parents to talk to their children about cell phone safety and to instruct their children to be cautious when using text or instant messaging features.”
In addition to indecent solicitation, Serdarow was also charged with traveling to meet a minor. Both counts are felonies.
