Floyd Cardoz, winner of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters' and the culinary giant behind several New York City restaurants, died of COVID in 2020.
in Montclair were consumed with Cardoz’s celebrity status and went public with medical treatment details — including his placement on a ventilator and his death on March 25, 2020.
“Rather than focusing on treatment of Mr. Cardoz or properly informing his wife and family of his condition, defendants focused on Mr. Cardoz’s celebrity,” the suit alleges. The hospital “violated numerous statutes related to patients care,” including the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, the lawsuit alleges.
When Cardoz died, his wife was given “little explanation or input into his medical care,” the suit states. However, she when she began calling family members in India to let them know he had passed, she was shocked to find out they already knew, the suit states. “This robbed Barkha of the right to grieve and inform family members of Floyd’s passing on her terms,” the suit states. “These actions were clearly motivated by celebrity and publicity and came at the expense of the privacy of , not to mention ethics.”
