Jovanny Galindo, 33, of Neptune City, pleaded guilty to third-degree aggravated manslaughter and was sentenced Friday to probation, his attorney, Patrick Toscano, of Caldwell, told NJ Advance Media on Saturday.

A plea deal offered by the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General called for Galindo to plead guilty to a third-degree crime, resign his job with the state and serve 364 days in jail. “ was a corrections officer with an unblemished record until that day,” Toscano told NJ Advance Media on Saturday. “He used his discretion believing he was able to spray to prevent a possible uprising.”

Galindo, who worked at Mid-State Correctional Facility, a 700-bed prison in Wrightstown, was suspended from his position as a senior correctional police officer after the allegations came to light.
