Glastonbury 2023: Lewis Capaldi brings family to tears over Tourette's
The mother of a teenager with Tourette’s has said that Lewis Capaldi’s Glastonbury performance left her in tears because of the “amazingly powerful” impact it will have on raising awareness for the condition.
For Laura Hummersone, whose 19-year-old son Harry has the condition, the performance had an emotional impact on them.on the topic in all the times I’ve known about Tourette’s. Harry was diagnosed with Tourette’s when he was five and a half and Ms Hummersone said that her son’s tics were so bad at one point that she had to quit the job she had at the time for 12 years to look after him.“It was so violent and also he couldn’t feed himself… and sometimes he would hit his head on the door frame and knock himself out.Ms Hummersone said she was particularly struck by how much the crowd supported Capaldi.
“I wanted Harry to see the love from that crowd – nobody cared about Lewis’ ticing, they were carrying him through and little things like that show it is nothing to be ashamed of. That’s the big thing.”
