When you look at “failure” through a different lens, you can learn a lot.
When it comes to college students, in particular, imposter syndrome becomes increasingly relevant, especially at schools where competition is rigorous. Even before college, it’s easy to feel like awas a mistake. In college, students are thrust into a foreign environment, independent and left to make decisions and choices, either good or bad, on their own. Everyone starts on equal footing, and we’re all fledgling adults.
That’s where my TEDx experience can step in to serve as an analogy — on camera , everything can look fantastic and easy, but off camera , there are failures on top of failures on top of failures. There’s a pile of failures behind every success, and most of us decide to hide our failures and struggles instead of embracing them. There are sleepless nights. Lazy mornings. Self-hating days. Lonely evenings.
