The Shankill Women's Centre has offered a welcoming, safe, and empowering space for women since 1987
With a six-month-old daughter at home, Rachel felt isolated from her friends as a young mum and unsure of what path she wanted to take and what she wanted to do.
"It is just a blessing. I think more areas need a Centre where people can go and feel no judgement. They can open up without feeling that someone is thinking bad of them." "Once I got settled [in the group], I loved coming. It was my break away from being a mum and I could be me for a few hours while Emilee was in creche. It's a safe space for you to go to. The girls are all amazing, and you know that you're not by yourself.
"Whether it's for a job, education, relationship, or just yourself mentally or physically, it's never too late to make a change big or small. Don't be scared to start over whether it be today, tomorrow, or next year.Following her experiences as a service users, Rachel has returned to the Shankill Women's Centre as a staff member - she is a facilitator for the Life Skills project.
