Murder of 15-year-old in Huddersfield outside school gates has left parents shocked and fearful for their children
Cassie Wheatley was spending a normal Saturday afternoon with her nine-year-old son at a local playground in Huddersfield.
The incident has left residents and local leaders deeply shocked and having to come to terms with the fact that knife crime – particularly serious youth violence – is on the increase. While fatal youth stabbings have long been associated with London, the trend has grown in northern towns and cities. Police later confirmed that two people had suffered non life-threatening injuries in the incident and an 18-year man was arrested.
The machete was found in a small playground in Huddersfield, days before a schoolboy was stabbed to death
