Shannon Marsden, 22, and Stephen Boden, 30, were convicted at Derby Crown Court of the murder 10-month-old Finley Boden.
The court heard that the couple inflicted over 100 injuries as they burned and beat the innocent child in a series of sickening attacks during the lockdown. Finley, who had lived with his parents for just 39 days after being removed from care, was subjected to "significant, substantial and repeated acts of severe violence” at the hands of Marsden and Boden.
Just hours after the death Boden was heard telling Marsden that he was going to sell Finlay's pushchair on Ebay. He later told cops that he only said this as a joke. Top news stories today Later Marsden, while visiting Finley’s body in a hospital chapel of rest on January 11 2021, would say: “His dad’s battered him to death. I didn’t protect him.”Mrs Justice Tipples said: “Given the length of this case and the awful nature of the facts you have had to consider, I discharge you from jury service to life.”
Jurors heard Finley was returned to the couple’s care over eight weeks by a court order, despite social workers asking for a longer transition.
