The chief told FOX10 News police made one arrest, charging Charlesa Kate Welch, 31, of Mobile, with two counts of first-degree assault in connection with a shooting near the Shell gas station off of Broad Street.“It’s unfortunate that we’re here,” Prine told FOX10 News. “By all accounts, Mardi Gras has been a huge success this year. But it really gets to the point that, you know, when we congregate and we come out here, people really need to leave their weapons at home. This is so unfortunate.
Prine added that Mobile “has a rich tradition in Mardi Gras. And yet here we are again talking about senseless gun violence.”At 5:52 p.m., in the 300 block of Dauphin Street, several men got into a fight that resulted in two stabbing victims. Police initially said two people were stabbed, then told FOX10 News they could confirm only one victim. Prine later revised that again, telling FOX10 News that they did confirm a second victim.
About 15 to 20 minutes later , police responded to a shooting at St. Anthony and Warren streets. Prine said fire-rescue workers took the victim to the hospital and that those wounds do appear life-threatening. Police discovered one individual suffering from a gunshot wound who was then transported to the hospital for possible life-threatening injuries. The final incident took place at about 6:20 p.m.
