There were benched areas as well as portaloos, and food and drink trucks including a coffee cart, Falafel Street Food, and The Sausage Box eatery. Leeds residents travelled from all over the city, and families, students, and elderly people watched the funeral, united in their grief. One woman, who only wanted to be named Denise, travelled over an hour in her mobility scooter from Moortown to the city centre; she was"determined" to watch it from the big screen.
"It's only one time and I didn't want to be on my own at home, I wanted to come out and speak to people", she said. Wetherspoons in Millennium Square was one of the only bars open in the city on Monday before and during the funeral, and punters were seen raising a glass to Her Majesty. A powerful silence prevailed around the square as the Queen's coffin arrived at Westminster Abbey, followed by them standing to sing national anthem in solidarity.
