However, let me use this opportunity to say that, for too long the view of our interiorscape has been distinctly off colour. Somehow someone at some time convinced practically everyone that having a home perpetually ticking over in neutral was compulsory,But that’s all far too grown up.
It will surprise no one to hear that I’ve long been addicted to the chromatic narcotic that is pink. It’s just so darn pink. And that’s despite the fact that it’s nearly always on the wrong side of Ghastly Good Taste. Maybe be it’s the fact that pink is all too often in dubious taste territory that it nearly always raises a smile. When we’re feeling great we’re “in the pink”, for the vast majority of British Blokedom it seems pink is their go-to colour choice for a first-date shirt, and of course, let’s not forget that humans always look so much better when their cheeks are pink.
Weirdly, pink doesn’t actually mean pink. Light red got it’s name from horticulture. The petal of pink flowers do light red in spectacular fashion but it’s the zig-zagged edge of said petal that defined the shade, since a jagged cut was habitually known as “pinked” to our medieval ancestors. Hence pinking shears.
