) - A Mountain Brook woman died Monday morning when a tree fell on her inside her apartment at Mountain Brook Court.Montevallo Road from Petticoat Lane to Overhill Road was closed for several hours due to the damage.
“It’s just surreal that it happened,” says Mountain Brook Battalion Chief Justin Baker. “It happened so fast. Just one of those things it’s never going to happen to me, and everybody just needs to be weather aware we are so apt to a tornado and just don’t think about a regular thunderstorm can cause damage like this. Just because it was a tornado cell that came through, we still recommend people paying attention to their weather radio. Please pay attention to the thunderstorms.
Many others are cleaning up as strong storms left behind a lot of damage. Thousands across Alabama are without power and trees are on several homes. In Bessemer, a tree is blocking Parkwood Road and a power line is down.In Helena many traffic lights are down and power is out. SR 261 is closed near Dance Etc, Hwy 95 is closed near the tank farm and Hwy 52 W. near American Freight has lines down.Several trees are on homes in Alabaster in the Scottsdale neighborhood.
