The head of probation tells BBC News more men could help in some cases, including domestic abuse.
The new head of the probation service in England and Wales has told BBC News that more men are needed in the profession.
However, it is facing intense scrutiny after a series of men committed murders while under probation supervision, among them Damien Bendall. "Sometimes it's really good to be able to allocate a case where they think the gender will be important," she said. She said: "It's been suggested in the past that associations of the probation service with social work has leant it to be viewed by women as more of an attractive career than men."
